Romans 8:29-30 | Foreknowledge, Predestination, and the Work of God in Salvation
In the next section of Romans (Romans 8:29-30), Paul begins to unpack what it means to be one who is "called according to God's purpose" (v. 28b). These verses lay out what’s called the ordo salutis (a Latin term which speaks about the order of the causes and effects in our salvation). The ordo salutis does not list every theological point concerning our salvation. For example, Paul here does not mention regeneration, repentance, faith, or sanctification. Still, the ones he does mention are some of the central doctrines in the matter. This text has been called the golden chain of salvation. It describes God’s work in salvation from beginning to end.
