Genesis 2:18-25 | God Made Them Male and Female

In a final act of creation, God fashions the woman. How? While Adam stands among the trees, he is overcome with a deep sleep as he is pierced and a rib is removed. In other words, a bride comes from his side. Does this sound familiar? Later, when Jesus the second Adam is on the cross, he is not standing among the trees but hanging on a tree. He is not in a deep sleep but in deep agony when his side is pierced for our transgressions (Isa 53:5). By God's design, another bride-the church—comes from his side. God provides a helpmate for Adam to join him in the call to dominion that he has given to humanity. Though God knew the man would not find a suitable helper among the animals, he allowed Adam to name them, in part, to confirm that need in Adam's mind as well. The text tells us "no helper" was found for Adam. So God crafts one for him. Join us Sunday as we explore the first marriage.
