Matthew 28:1-10 | The Sign of the Resurrection - Resurrection Sunday 2026
Have you ever asked God for a sign? It seems to be a common human experience. We imagine that if God would show us some tangible undeniable proof there is no way we could doubt—we would certainly believe! We say, “God if you’re real, show me!” As strange as it may seem, when Jesus walked the earth, many people did the same thing. They wanted to know for sure that He was the Christ. In Matthew 12:39-40 Jesus said, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” When asked for a sign, Jesus said only one will be given, the sign of Jonah. This is a reference to Jesus’ death and resurrection. The resurrection is the sign! We have no need of another, we have the greatest sign God could ever give—a risen Savior!
